member play & open/free play

Member Play

On 10 of the 12 courts, member play is only for paid, registered Harwich residents, which is 7 days-a-week, 8am through noon. During busy mornings, Member play is managed using a whiteboard to sign up. The basic process is:

  • The flow of play on the board is from vertically from the top down, then horizontally left to right.
  • No singles play; only doubles.
  • You put your name in a box on the whiteboard to play.
  • Other players add their name(s) to the box to fill out the foursome.
  • Once there are 4 players in a box you, you go to an open court, when available, and play one game to 11 points.
  • When that one game is finished, you exit the court.
  • If you want to play again, you put your name in a box on the board again for the next game, with a new group of 4.
  • If 4 people want to sign up as a group to play together, you can put all 4 names in a box, but the box ahead of you must be full before your group goes out.

Open/Public Play

There are two courts available to the general public for Open/Free play (courts 6 & 8) even during member play. During the season, the courts can be very busy. There are some court basic courtesy rules/guidelines that must be followed during Open/Free play.

  • Only 4 players are allowed on the court at one time
  • Follow the first-come-first-served order of play
  • If all 12 courts are full and people are waiting to play, finish your game to 11 and let the next group come on to play their game to 11
  • The courts are for Pickleball only. NO other activity is allowed on the courts, including skateboarding, hover boards, roller blading, bike riding, dog walking, hockey, or any other non-Pickleball activity.
  • Singles games are allowed only if no one is waiting. If people are waiting, it's doubles play only
  • No chairs, pets, scooters, loose balls, bags, drinks (other than water) are allowed on the courts
